Guidance for
Printo Evenings
The aim here is to make the Print and Slide Review evenings more involving.
Every member is encouraged to bring one print – it isn’t a competition so no need for mounts or size limits (large or small)
Members sign in, take a numbered card and write their name next to that number on the Printo sheet supplied. Attending members will be divided into two groups,
[A] being numbers 1 to halfway, [B] being from halfway to the final number.
Members of group [A] will be asked to put their prints on the tables. Each person from group
[B] chooses one image and then locates the photographer via the number from the Printo sheet. Each pair can discuss, between themselves, how the image came about and what they like about it, ask all manner of questions and make all manner of constructive comments etc..
Then swap about
Group [B] put prints on tables and each person from group [A] chooses one image etc.
Then swap about
Each person in group [A] selects one photo from group [A]; each person in group
[B] selects one photo from group [B] and so on (This gives people a chance to select an image which might be from their own group).
This can be repeated as desired. If a member hasn't brought a print, he or she will be able to make up a group of three for the discussion.
Members with technical/compositional expertise (!) can offer suggestions and encouragement to the beginners and enjoy debate with the more experienced.
Do bring in prints where you would like specific advice.
After the Coffee
Since there is little opportunity to discuss the winning prints on competition evenings, winners and those placed are invited to bring along their successful prints to the next Printo session for presentation to the whole group. If there are images which people think would be interesting for the whole gathering to consider, these can also be discussed in the second half of the Printo session.
